The physical suffering of Christ was not that we would not endure physical suffering but rather that we will not suffer spiritually.

As Ms. Manning says, the atonement of Jesus invites believers to willfully (obedience) reach out to all among us in suffering circumstances. We are charged with fighting social injustices, alleviating pain and poverty and most of all presenting the gospel truth that brings an end to spiritual suffering.
