It has never been more challenging to be a parent, and maybe more dangerous to be a child. In the midst of parent worries comes this important encouragement from God Himself. While many followers of Christ are the real deal in trying to be like Jesus, all too often Christians can be a reason for not coming to Jesus rather than a reason for wanting Him. I need to understand this pruning thing. It's one of God's most important tools in growing me - and you, for that matter. In fact, some of the difficulty and loss that you're experiencing right now may actually be your Heavenly Father cutting you back to help you grow. And the results are going to be far greater than they ever could have been if He left what He has been taking away. When it comes to eating, sweet and sour can be great together. When it comes to the business of leading and shaping peoples' lives, it's that combination that can lead to some very positive results. It takes some sweet and it takes some sour to change people. Apparently, little horses need both - nuzzles and nips. So do little people. And sadly, too many parents are giving a lot of one to their child and not much of the other. Some give the nuzzles, but not the nips. Some are giving a lot of nips, but not many nuzzles. Even horses know that young ones need both. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - Bumpy Landings - #4022http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Personal-Power/Bumpy-Landings-40222008-08-01T16:51:00-05:00
Now, maybe you've been experiencing some bumpy landings lately. It could be that God is saying, "Now that I've got your attention, I'd like to make a few announcements." Often, life's bumpy landings are God's way of getting our attention to tell us things and show us things that we could otherwise never see. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - The Mirror That Loves You - #4041http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Relationships/The-Mirror-That-Loves-You-40412008-08-01T16:38:05-05:00
There are things we can't see about ourselves - things that aren't particularly flattering. That's why we have mirrors. And some of the most revealing mirrors in your life aren't glass reflectors hanging on a wall. They're people who love you enough to show you things about yourself that you might not otherwise see. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - The Souvenirs of Sin - #3803http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Most-Important-Relationship/The-Souvenirs-of-Sin-38032008-07-30T16:54:21-05:00
If you have to carry some of the consequences of what you've done wrong, it can be powerful incentive not to do it again--which can save you from consequences that will be far worse. Now that's why God sometimes allows you and me to experience some unpleasant results of our sin. It's not that He hasn't forgiven us or that He doesn't love us. It's because He does. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - The Sandbag Syndrome - #3807http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Most-Important-Relationship/The-Sandbag-Syndrome-38072008-07-30T16:52:11-05:00
Because God loves you, He brings some Divine sandbags into your life. When God is working in your life and through your life, you need ballast to keep your feet on the ground. The Lord always has His levelers--trying circumstances, criticism, some failure, a medical problem, someone who loves you enough to tell you the hard truth, financial struggles. God's sandbags aren't much fun, but we really need them. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - It Stings--But it Disinfects - #3883http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Personal-Power/It-Stings-But-it-Disinfects-38832008-07-29T12:22:03-05:00
Notice, a rebuke can actually be "life-giving." It doesn't usually feel life-giving. When someone points out something they don't like about us, it hurts. It stings. But God says if we heed that criticism or rebuke, we're showing how wise we are.
