If you're a parent, you just can't afford to choose between your children. If you're a son or a daughter, you can't afford to pick one parent to be close to and the other one to kind of freeze out or ignore. In spiritual leadership you can't afford to get close to one person over another. If people work for you, you've got to treat them the same. Respect in the Bible: James 2:1-9http://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James%202:1-9&version=NIV2009-09-20T20:25:08-05:00
In this passage, James expressly forbids Christians to show favoritism to the wealthy, or to treat anyone differently than anyone else. The command to "love your neighbor" doesn't distinguish between different "types" of neighbor--which means that Christians are called to treat everyone with equal respect and love.
