Look around you. I'll bet somewhere God is meeting your need through a miracle of manna right now; just a miraculous, out-of-nowhere provision. But I'll bet somewhere you've got the modern equivalent of those Jewish sandals. Either way, every need is supplied. You're living hand-to-mouth; His hand to your mouth. Wow! Are you secure! I know I can’t be the only one who sometimes feels that God is withholding something good from them. And I suspect I’m not the only one who can become so fixated on what I don’t have that I miss the unexpected ways God’s meeting those very needs. Maybe you've been let down by others in the past, and maybe you're often anxious about whether you'll have what you need and you'll have it when you need it. With God as your Heavenly Father, with you as His child purchased with the life of His Son, that's unnecessary worry. And in a sense, it's an insult to the God you belong to. You are living with the greatest security in the world. You are living from hand to mouth. From His hand to your mouth, and what you need for tomorrow is as good as already in your hand. Maybe there's a burden you're going to have to carry or a challenge or assignment that you have in front of you or some possibilities that are either frightening or exciting, or possibly both. God often promises to provide for our needs if we just trust Him to do so. Here, we are told to "clothe ourselves" with Jesus Christ--to surround ourselves with His teachings, modeling our thinking after his. In these verses there are at least three things that God accomplishes by changing the season in our lives. Number one is pride-busting. You just have everything figured out, and then God does something to change the season. Secondly, is trust-building. He puts you in a place where you must trust Him even for the food you eat. Thirdly, changing seasons can be life-bettering. He took His ancient people through a wilderness because it was the way to the Promised Land.” There’s no way to the Promised Land except through the wilderness, and there’s no way to Easter except through Good Friday. Maybe everyone in God's service should have an assignment like that - to live the adventure of what life is like when all you've got is God. Now you may be at or near that point right now. Or it may be that God wants you to be at that point, and you've been avoiding it. For all of us, the ultimate questions of security and obedience boil down to this: Can God be trusted?
