The Bible makes it clear that there is no religion or human goodness that can erase our sins. Amazingly, it was the very God we have rebelled against who reached out to give us a way to belong to Him. A way that cost Him the most precious thing He had - His one and only Son. We make a lot of mistakes for love. And no matter how close our family or friends may be, there's still that unexplainable loneliness deep down inside. It's cosmic loneliness. We're lonely for God. Maybe we're even pretty religious but we're still missing the only love relationship that can satisfy the heart of a spiritual orphan. When Jesus died on the cross, he took with him all of our sins and sorrows. Because he died for us, we are no longer trapped by the sin and darkness in our lives. If God's all-knowing picture of your sin is there when you die, there is no way He can let you into His heaven. But that picture can be destroyed today - if you reach out to Jesus trust Him to be your Savior. To think that Jesus absorbed all the guilt and all the hell of all those sins when He died on the cross - that is overwhelming love. He waits right now to pour out that love on you. Is there some resentment, some anger, some bitterness that you've allowed to stick to your soul toward someone in your family; maybe even your mate or your child or your parent? Or maybe it's hard feelings toward someone at church, or where you work, in a ministry you're involved with. The Bible calls it a "root of bitterness" and says what will happen if you allow it to grow in you much longer. "It will cause trouble and defile many." So many folks live trapped between the “lookin’ good” role they play and an ugly, maybe frightening reality behind the image. That gap slowly tears you apart inside unless and until you can find someone who will take you as you really are and help you get to who you want to be and who you need to be. For millions of us, that person’s name is Jesus. He already knows everything about me—good, bad, ugly. The Bible says, ”Lord, You have searched me and You know me. You are familiar with all my ways” (Psalm 139:1, 2). So there’s nothing to hide. God is the relationship we've been missing and looking for our whole lives. We're lonely because we don't have His love. We're empty because only He can fill the hole in our heart. We're wondering what the meaning of our life is, but we can't get to the only One who knows, because He put us here. The wall is there. If we die with that wall still there between us and God, it will be there forever. The Bible has a word for that - hell. Even the heaven we want to go to is on the other side of that wall. You may have been experiencing a few bumpy landings lately yourself. It might be medical, or marital, economic, romantic, maybe it's parental issues or relationship issues. You're wondering why things have been so rocky. There could be many reasons, but we know that ultimately God is in charge of things. So, why has He sent or allowed these bumpy landings? Could it be He's trying to get your attention? Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - Replaying Your Performancehttp://hutchcraft.com/Blogs/Ron-s-Blogs/Replaying-Your-Performance2008-08-11T15:58:53-05:00
Beyond our intrinsic, God-given worth, it's the kind of person we are that matters to God. That's worth much more than the kind of performance we give. We need to be praising people for how generous, how compassionate, how unselfish they are - strengths for which there are no medals, but the strengths that really make a difference in people's lives.
