Battered and confused, we finally open our soul to the love that we've been looking for all our lives. And we find in Jesus what the Bible calls "an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Hebrews 6:19). The howling winds leave us, not lost, but found and finally at peace. In the arms of the One who speaks "Peace, be still!" to the storm in your soul. A Battlefield Christmas - #6771http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-most-important-relationship/a-battlefield-christmas-67712012-12-27T15:40:24-05:00
Sin is the "all about me" choices that we've all made. Who hasn't? And it's because ultimately, we've hijacked our lives from the God who gave us our life. Where does that take us: Broken relationships, broken promises, broken dreams, broken marriages, broken hearts. And Jesus won when He came and paid our death penalty on that cross. Realizing You Were Made For More - #6139http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-mission/realizing-you-were-made-for-more-61392010-07-23T16:15:12-05:00
Even if you seem to have everything going your way, your heart may still be saying, "I'm made for more than this." And your heart's right. It's just that the "something more" has always been elusive. It may be within your reach today, if you reach the right direction. Who could have more love, more meaning, more peace to give than the God who gave us our life in the first place? Washing in Water That Cannot Make You Clean - #6118http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-most-important-relationship/washing-in-water-that-cannot-make-you-clean-61182010-06-24T10:59:23-05:00
You have a decision to make: the ultimate life-or-death decision. Will you put your total trust in what Jesus did to pay for your sins on the cross? Or will you put your hope in something else? The outcomes of that decision are heaven or hell, and God leaves it to you to choose. The Illusion of Safety - #6094http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-most-important-relationship/the-illusion-of-safety-60942010-05-20T10:48:42-05:00
The God you will face one day has told us bluntly that all our goodness will not make us right with Him. Then He explains what will. "Righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." The Trouble With Life's Great Catches - #5950http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-most-important-relationship/the-trouble-with-lifes-great-catches-59502009-10-30T09:15:25-05:00
We have tried to fill a God-sized hole with things and people that can't begin to take His place. If we live like this, we'll live without peace and without meaning. If we die like this, we'll spend eternity without God and His love. He didn't leave us separated from Him. He pursued us. He sent His Son, Jesus, to sacrifice His life for yours and mine; to take the rap for all our sin, that defiant self-rule of our lives. The writer of proverbs says that those who win souls are wise. Those that are righteous will bear fruit in the form of a tree of life. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and you know, there’s a spot like that that’s been drawing literally millions of people for centuries. People who come away transformed. It’s the place the famous preacher Charles Spurgeon called “that magnificent magnet.” It’s the Cross of Jesus Christ. "Soul" in the Bible: Matthew 16:26http://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matt.16.26&version=NIV2009-07-16T11:29:23-05:00
"You can't take it with you"--that's the message of this famous saying, which reminds us that all the wealth in the world won't do any good if you haven't attended to the needs of your soul. If you've become relatively passive about your pursuit of a higher level of personal holiness, then you're not one of those Jesus described as "hungering and thirsting after righteousness," because hunger makes you stop what you're doing and go after something that will satisfy your appetite. Hunger is active, not passive.
