Two months ago, there were perhaps six online articles about the spiritual themes within Les Miserables. And this despite the fact that it has been the world’s most popular musical, seen by many millions and translated into 21 languages. In this video by Crosswalk, cast members share their thoughts about the spiritual messages.
Today, there are hundreds of blog posts and articles (as a Google search will show). Avatar: new Cameron blockbuster promises embedded spiritual meaninngs and parallels.http://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/11272010-08-09T16:19:34-05:00
Superlatives reign. Movie director Cameron does it again: probably the most expensive film ever made. And in 3D. Took 14 years to make. With its own language to out-Klingon Klingon. Christian messages in movies - drawing out hidden redemptive themes, eg Slumdog Millionairehttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/2272010-08-08T17:20:44-05:00
Michael Landon, director of film The Velveteen Rabbit, is interviewed by CT magazine, on his thoughts about being a Christian in Hollywood. (You can subscribe to Christianity Today Movies for more good stuff like this.)
The Velveteen Rabbit is a classic children’s book which explores the moving and recurring theme of being made ‘real’ through a search for redemptive love. Spielberg’s Artificial Intelligence engages with this at a more adult level, as do so many other books and films – Love of Seven Dolls by Paul Gallico is just one such classic. Les Miserables is a parable of love, grace, law and forgiveness.http://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/392010-08-08T17:13:39-05:00

Inception has been getting rave reviews. It’s certainly the sort of film you’d want to see a second time. In fact, this second viewing phenomenon is very widespread, as people return to work out the intricacies of the plot, not to mention looking for the many hidden visual and musical puns which have been deliberately embedded in the film. This is what the industry calls a ‘rehook’. (How can we make aspects of Christian and evangelistic ministry, offline or online, have this ‘rehook’, ’sticky’ attraction to return?) Finding Christian themes and meanings in film and movies as starting point for evangelism using popular culturehttp://internetevangelismday.com/popular-culture.php2010-08-07T18:20:30-05:00
Suppose God sent you a letter. And in it, He offered you a gift – a simple evangelistic approach similar to the parables that Jesus used. Something that would engage with people’s interests, and employ a common language and experience. Would you want to use it? Christian redemptive themes in Dr Who and sci-fi fantasy storieshttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/19462010-08-04T18:09:30-05:00
The new Dr Who series with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan is proving at best very watchable, as blogger Paul Mount comments. Last week’s Van Goch episode, guest-written by Emmy/Bafta-winning script-writer Richard Curtis, was particularly moving, and engaged with a number of human issues.
