Weariness, according to Hebrews 12 , seems to result from taking your eyes off Jesus. Maybe you're weary because you've been doing God's work in your strength. You know better, but you've gone from God working through you to the crank-it-out weariness of you suddenly working for God. Oh, you're doing the same things, but it's not Him through you. It's you for Him. Or it could be that you've been looking at the results you're getting instead of the Savior you're serving. Not only is this birthday a reminder that I’m no spring chicken, it also has me wondering where the dancing has gone. Life has a way of taking the dance right out of our hearts. Have you ever been spiritually exhausted? Oswald Chambers writes about "delivering yourself over to exhaustion." Prescription For A Weary Worker - #2890http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-hindrances/prescription-for-a-weary-worker-28902009-09-25T13:59:32-05:00
If you're in Weary Valley, you're prone to discouragement, to thoughts of quitting what you were called to do, to mechanical ministry. It's time to get your eyes back on Jesus. It was His love that compelled you to serve in the first place. Go back to the cross, where you came in. Before you go to sleep, search through your heart for any garbage that has accumulated - anger, unforgiveness, lust, coveting, comparing, gossip, negative attitudes, sinful treatment of people. Don't shut down until you've cleaned out the junk of the day - by bringing it to Jesus in repentance - right there on your bed. Maybe you've been coasting at the same spiritual speed for a while; you've been content with mediocrity - with crawling. But you're restless. God has made you restless. He has so much more for you. For you, for me, there will come a day when God will say, "This very night, this very day your life will be demanded from you." Only He knows when your appointment with Him is. And it can't be rescheduled, it can't be cancelled, or it can't be postponed. The difference between personal peace and personal turmoil is an issue of priorities. Which kingdom are you putting first? If what matters to God, like your time with Him, your service for Him, the condition of your relationships; if those things have been shoved to the margins by other less eternal pursuits, then you're trapped in a race that knows no peace. It is said that if you are at the top of Cadillac Mountain in Maine at daybreak, you will be one of the first Americans to see the sunrise that day. That would be something amazing to see, but you wouldn't want to make the valiant effort to get to the top of the mountain only to find the view there a big disappointment. Maybe you have experienced that feeling. You arrived somewhere you really wanted to go or you received something you really wanted, but it turned out to be disappointing.
