Understand search engine optimization and double your site visits
Many blogs and websites lose thousands of potential visitors because their owners do not understand how people search, or the way search engine ranking works. Yet search engine optimization (SEO) is not a dark secret art, only to be undertaken by paid consultants. The things you should be doing as a matter of course, on every page of your blog or website, are so simple…

The must-see digital ministry resource guide for churches
An exciting new resource provides valuable help for churches wanting to use the Web and social media: Internet Toolbox for Churches. "The Internet and social media present today's church with unprecedented opportunities to effectively connect with and reach people," says Dave Hakes. He founded ITC after several years as president of the congregation at his active, Christ-centered and outreach-driven Boston church.

Storytelling is at the heart of all effective communication.
When someone says, "Let me tell you a little story," it switches something on in our brains. Because we are hard-wired for story. If you preach, lecture, teach, or write without using stories, you are likely reducing the understandability of your message by a factor of 10, and its memorability by a factor of 20.

What Christians can learn from consumer best buy research
There's a magazine from my childhood which has hugely influenced my thinking since. Not a comic or storytelling publication. It was WHICH?, the magazine of the pioneering UK consumer group CA. Research is also vital for Christian ministry and evangelism.

Consider Wordpress for your next web project
If you are considering starting a new website including church site or blog, put WordPress near the top of your list of options. It is a CMS (Content Management System) website creator, and is no longer just a blog tool. Large static websites can be built with it, for example the 1000s of pages of the PowertoChange outreach site. It powers 20-25% of all new websites coming online.

Use images always, everywhere, they enhance text and readability
We are wired for visual imagery. An image can express – in a fraction of a second – a mood, a truth, or just an enticement to keep reading a text article. Use them constantly! Creative commons (i.e. broadly free to use) images can be found through an advanced image search at Google or Flickr. There are also many other sources of free photos, graphics and icons, including Bible images.

Readability for writers - how to test your writing
Communication only happens when the recipient understands the message clearly. Daily Writing Tips encourages all writers to put their copy through a readability tester. This provides a Flesch-Kincaid Grade level and a Reading Ease score. Readers Digest built its huge readership with a style that specifies an English level of the average 13-year-old. They also wisely communicate everything with storytelling. You may perhaps recall personalized non-fiction such as 'I am John's heart'. Wesley would run all his sermons past his maidservant, and simplify the stuff she did not understand.

Biblical parallels from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations
Some thoughts from UK about our Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Point of information: this weekend was chosen as the equivalent point of the year to the Coronation in 1953. That was 59 years ago, because it was not celebrated till 16 months after she became Queen in 1952. Like a large majority of Brits, I cannot remember a time when she was not the Queen. And yet … and I really don't get this Passage of Time thing at all … I can remember as a 3-year-old watching her Coronation on next door's tiny black and white TV, along with 19 others crammed into a small living room.
