People always wanted electronic connection, even in 1969
Social media, in its widest sense, goes back beyond the beginning of the Internet, as this infographic explains.
It is not a passing digital fad. People have always wanted the opportunity to interact electronically. Social media is perhaps the defining communication movement of this century, and highly significant for sharing the good news – if done appropriately.

Vital new book THE SOCIAL MEDIA GOSPEL - Sharing the Good News in New Ways
You may know Meredith Gould as the person behind the #chsocm Twitter hashtag, for discussing all things church/social media. So Dr Gould knows her stuff! She is an established author, sociologist and social media consultant, with digital experience going back to the beginning of the Internet. But this is not an academic book – it's highly readable, laced with whimsical humor – and provides a valuable introduction to any church leader or member who is considering whether, or how, to start out or develop a social media strategy.

Les Mis - the film I want to see again, and why Les Miserables is incredible
"We must go and see this again next week," my wife and I said to each other after watching Les Miserables. This new film is simply amazing.
I've already written about the incredible spiritual parallels in the film, the multiple starting points for conversation (many connected with personal pain and life issues), and the growing number of online resources available, especially the Damaris video shorts and study guide, and Rusty Wright's free-to-use article. So this post is a few personal and random thoughts about this production...

Using hobby websites for appropriate friendship evangelism
One of the key ways to engage with non-seeking outsiders is through a mutual interest or personal need. Hobby websites are therefore a great way of building redemptive relationships. Yet such sites are vanishingly rare.

Les Miserables movie - what we can learn and share about God and Jesus
This is a major worldwide opportunity. Les Miserables is not only the most most popular musical ever, but also a serious and deep story, with a hugely redemptive message.
Trevin Wax, pastor, author and blogger with the Gospel Coalition, says: "Les Miserables provides an unforgettable picture of undeserved, unexpected grace and its transformative effect in the heart of a guilty man."

Sharing a life-saving message to Facebook friend in crisis
Moving story of Tim Reilly sharing the good news through social media, at a critical point in a friend’s life.
Two comments:
- A prerequisite for this story: that Tim had a number of not-yet-followers as Facebook friends.
- He was open to the guidance of God's Spirit on who to speak to, and to use real-time Facebook messaging rather than merely posting a comment or question.
What lessons do you draw from this story?

Mobilize your church for digital evangelism with these suggestions
Internet Evangelism Day is both an annual focus day and year-round resource guide for digital outreach. It has always been our suggestion that churches build a digital evangelism focus into their events or service sheets on or near that day. In previous years, although this could be an eye-opening challenge, actual involvement in digital evangelism or ministry was not something that many church members were likely to take up. The options were somewhat limited, time-consuming, and needed technical or writing gifts.
No longer! Social networking enables any online Christian to naturally share resources that explain some aspect of the good news

How to share the Christian good news on Facebook and social media
One of the most significant digital evangelism initiatives of 2011 was the release of YesHEIs.com. The team recently released this Our Chance video to highlight social media opportunities that YesHEIs gives. You can easily download this video to show in church meetings or seminars.

Guide: use Pinterest to share the Christian good news in evangelism
Pinterest is a name getting increasing recognition across the Web. No, it is not a fan page for the late British playwright Harold Pinter.
Pinterest is the latest expression of social networking and sharing, and can be effectively used in evangelism.

A Stick of Dynamite
when you give someone the Good News about Jesus, you're planting that stick of holy dynamite in their hearts. It's dynamite strong enough to demolish the walls, the defenses they have built around their lost heart. And God knows exactly what time is the right time to push "detonate."
