Internet usage worldwide and the opportunity for missions to use the Web
Internet World Stats now provide a page with all the world’s countries, along with population, internet users, and internet penetration. Here are their Top 10 languages used online. Check their links and discussion of methodology at the foot of that page. Few analysts seem to calculate language use after the top ten. The only source I know of is Wikipedia’s Top 34 languages listing. Satellite company O3b Networks has linked up with Google and other investors to bring cheaper, high-speed wireless Internet access to areas unlikely to see investments in fiber infrastructure. O3b stands for “other 3 billion”, a reference to the world’s population that still can’t access the Internet. O3b, which is based in UK’s Channel Islands, said construction is under way on 16 satellites that will drop the cost for ISPs and operators to provide Internet access over 3G (third-generation) and WiMax networks. Is digital evangelism effective? True stories of effective digital outreach online
There is no magic bullet in evangelism, discipleship, or anything else. Over the years, new mediums and methods have been each championed as holding the key to evangelism and church growth. Yet the church continues to decline numerically in some countries of the West.

Web has potential as medium for Christian communication and outreach
The Internet has become a 21st century Roman road, marketplace, theater, backyard fence, and office drinks machine. Web evangelism gives believers opportunities to reach people with the Gospel right where they are, just as Jesus and Paul did. The Web is an open window to the whole world.

Can God use me to reach people for Jesus Christ on the Internet? Article by Rusty Wright
Could God use you to reach people for Christ via the Internet? The answer may surprise you! “How could I ever use the Internet to reach people for Christ?” you might wonder. “I’m no techie. I know how to send email and read the news online, but that’s about it.”

Googling the Gospel - how people use Google to search for life answers. Christian Herald article by Russ Bravo
How do you connect to people? It’s a question I’ve been thinking about increasingly in recent days, as life gets more hectic and the pressures of work make time ever more precious. As with so many things, the internet can be a blessing or a curse. It can deliver information to our fingertips at the click of a mouse, give us access to knowledge, understanding, entertainment and much more at very modest cost – and help us communicate faster, wider and more creatively than ever before.

Readers Digest - why does its writing style communicate so well?
The enormous popularity of Reader's Digest over 80 years suggests that they have learned something in communication techniques! The magazine therefore offers approaches that we can use in writing for the web: * It aims at the reading level of a 13-year-old, yet does not talk down to adults. * It uses many true real-life stories about people. “People are interested in people.” * These stories are told in a dramatic way, usually with a key element of the person's story as a lead-in. * Stories use plenty of quoted speech: “He said... She called back...” etc. * It addresses practical problems and worries, and offers ideas to help readers improve their quality of life. In other words, it addresses felt needs which is a key strategy in evangelism. * Humor is mixed with serious articles.

Japan: the need for mobile and web evangelism outreach in Japanese: Internet ministry mission church growth missionary strategies.
One of the ‘major modern mission misses’ (shall we call these ‘4Ms’?) of our time is the huge disparity between the highly-wired, tech-loving 127-million Japanese population, and the searing lack of online evangelism in the Japanese language. Many aspects of the Web are hugely popular in Japan, because in a highly-regimented and formal society, it provides a creative outlet for expression. (See this detailed article from Wired Magazine.) However, since most Japanese are non-seekers, they are most unlikely to be searching for Christian material online. There are, we believe, three keys to online evangelism: building incarnational relationships, addressing felt needs, and using Japanese culture. All three approaches are beautifully illustrated in this account from a missionary in Japan.

A missed opportunity for the Great Commission: reaching 10/40 Window nations online
The potential of the Web for online outreach is increasingly acknowledged. But there is so much more that can be done, especially in non-English languages. The needs and opportunities of Japan are immense, for example. But many other countries are a challenge too. There is very little effective web evangelism parts of E Europe, for example. Yet the Web is a powerful tool to help us fulfill the Great Commission.
