Wives in the Bible: Ephesians 5:22-33

One flesh - a Christian perspective
Man and woman were created to live in union with one another. The phrase "one flesh" refers not only to sexual union, but to the fact that a married couple should live in a state of harmony, intimacy, and mutual support for each other.

"Become one" in the Bible: Genesis 2:24
When a man and a woman leave their families to get married, it is as if two things are becoming one. In Genesis the author says that they will "become one flesh."

Bride in the Bible: Revelation 21:2
The church of Jesus Christ is often described as a Christ's "bride"--a metaphor that suggests the depth of Jesus' love for his people. This is one of many passages in the Bible to use the marriage imagery as a symbol of our relationship to Jesus.

"Submit" in the Bible: Ephesians 5:22-33
Husbands and wives are both called to submit to and serve each other, using Christ's relationship to the church as their model. Because Christ's life was dedicated to serving others, that should be our model for relating to our spouses.

It has been a crazy winter a lot of places—some very cold, cold, lots of snow and some unusually warm days thrown in. That could be one reason we keep hearing about people who've been killed by a sudden avalanche. The authorities are taking some steps to do what they can to prevent avalanches. They get this cannon that they fire and they shoot it into vulnerable accumulations of snow. They're actually trying to start an avalanche! The theory is that when you do a small avalanche, you can avoid a big one.
