Today's Devotional: Waiting and Doing in Faith
There's a sense sometimes in modern Christianity that true faith means always waiting patiently...
Wait! Responding wisely to setbacks
Earlier this week, Chris wrote about his reaction to a major disappointment in his personal life....

Learn to Wait – from Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Christmas Sermons
I stand at the door and knock. — Revelation 3:20 Celebrating Advent means learning how to wait. Waiting is an art which our impatient age has forgotten. We want to pluck the fruit before it has had time to ripen. Greedy eyes are soon disappointed when what they saw as luscious fruit is sour to […]

When You're Stuck Where You Don't Want to Be - #6802
If you're stuck where you don't want to be? Well, God's approach is to act as if you'll be there for a long time. Quit wishing you were somewhere else or someone else. Make something of the place where you are. There are people there who need Christ. Don't look past them because you don't like where you are.

The Pregnant Pause - #6767
God has started His greater good, but right now it's just shaking up your world. Oh, He'll explain it. He'll fulfill it in the future. But now, in between, obey before you understand - like a boy jumping off a sled before his Dad told him why. Joseph discovered that the apparent disaster is actually clearing the way for a mighty work of God. You've just got to obey in the meantime.

The Greatest Enemy of the Best - #6396
We all have a hard time waiting for God to deliver what He promised. So we try to help Him. So, what's the greatest enemy of God's best? Impatience. We are the microwave generation. We get 30-second solutions to every problem in commercials. We like fast food. We want God's provision, but we want it now.

The Reason For the Wait - #6236
You've been waiting for God to come through. You want to be married. You're waiting for Him to answer your prayer about having a child, raising a child. You're waiting for that job, that heart change, that breakthrough, that answer, and it hasn't come yet. Don't panic. Don't let impatience cost you the perfect will of God. Premature babies aren't as healthy as ones that are full-term. Premature solutions aren't healthy either.

Faithfully Waiting
Sometimes we find ourselves in over our heads. Our natural inclination is to try to dig ourselves out, but sometimes we find that there’s no right way to do so. We can keep trying to dig ourselves out... or we can wait patiently for God to help us.

It Ain't Over! - #2581
You can't tell what God is going to do for a wonderful finish to this game. God has a way of hitting a bases loaded, grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs - if you don't give up before that harvest comes! I just hope you don't miss that grand finish because you gave up on the game too soon!

Beauty in Out-of-the-Way Places - #5789
Think about Hannah in the Old Testament. She was a childless woman who kept on trusting the Lord. She was beauty that no one saw except God. And He made her the mother of Samuel, the greatest spiritual leader of his time. And then there's Mary, the little known girl from a ridiculed, backwater village called Nazareth, but God knew all about her and He looked to her when it came time to find a mother to carry and to raise His Son. God seems to have special rewards for quiet, unnoticed faithfulness.

Waiting - a Christian perspective
In one sense, the Christian life on earth is marked by waiting: waiting for Christ to return. Here, we are cautioned to wait patiently and watchfully, always ready for Christ's return at any time.

Servants - a Christian perspective
We are to be ready for the coming of the Son of Man. We are to be like good servants waiting for their master, and just like it's good for servants to be ready when their master arrives, it will be good for us to be ready when Jesus comes.
